The Simplified Prospectus (SP) failed as a consumer communication because the rules led to long documents, many are written in technical or legalistic language and poorly structured. The KIID has a prescribed structure and headings.
Only the information applicable to those headings and no other information can be used. The Key Investor Information Document (KIID) is a radical attempt to address these shortcomings. The revised UCITS directive must be implemented by all member states by 1 July 2011.
